"Live Meditations" for community participation

  1. Henry Art Muscum on second Thursday 12:30-1pm.  Meditation guided by Ellen McCown or Lyndal Johnson from Seattle Insight Meditation Society.
  2. Lila Yoga Studio at 2812 E Madison, Seattle 98112 (Half block from MLK Avenue). Lead by Ellen McCown of Seattle Insight Meditation Society.  Every Thursday morning 8-9am.
  3. UW Mindfulness Sanga for UW community.  Meets every Wednesday at 12N on 22nd floor of UW Tower. 
    We sit on Wednesdays at noon in the Wallingford Room in the UW Tower. Take a break from busy-ness and focus on your breathing. Return to center.  We meditate from Noon to 12:40pm.

Every spring and fall, the Seattle Insight Meditation Society offers a 4-week Teen Mindfulness Meditation Class.  The next series begins on March 2nd.  If you know of any teens who might benefit from knowing about this class, please pass on the information.  Attached are fliers and a parent permission form for the upcoming class.

 

The class gives teens a foundation in secular mindfulness meditation.  Class topics include -  

     1 – Exploring attention and learning to anchor it.

     2 – Grounding the body.

     3 – Being mindful - Being here now.

           Noticing pleasant experiences and being with difficult ones.

     4 – Pausing and choosing whether to respond or react. 

     5 – Moving mindfully. 

     6 – Beginning to notice thought patterns.  How are we relating to our thoughts?

     7 – Relaxation and self kindness.

 

The class is free of charge and is for high school teens who choose on their own to take the class.
